I for one have considered many times about adding solar panels and wind generator power to my bug out shelter. I’ve even given a considerable amount of thought into using it at home just to cut down on the expense of electricity. I’m defiantly a do it yourself Macgyver type and take pride in boasting how I saved money by doing it myself. One major component however is often times not taken into consideration. Off grid batteries should be at the top of the planning.
With so many products in use today with solar, wind and water, what off grid batteries are considered the best choice for the application? If I were to ask ten different battery manufacturers, I would have ten saying there’s were.
Maintenance and Longevity
The reality is that batteries are expensive. Deep cycle batteries can cost anywhere from your weeks paycheck to good bye Ferrari. I want the most for my money. Never having to buy batteries again especially following a Doomsday Scenario should be a Top Priority on Everyone’s List. Think about it. How will you power necessary appliances or medical equipment. What about a Ham or CB radio for communications? Depending on the severity of the scenario, cell phones may still work or at least text. Making preparations now for these possibilities could be the difference between life and death.
Always plan for the unknown
Any steps that we take now to prepare for possible catastrophic events is what separates us from the majority. I did say the majority because it is a fact that many will perish. Taking little things into consideration which are so life sustaining. Things like having purified water to drink. Having the proper clothing to dress for the seasons should you be outside in the elements. Even to be able to make a fire to boil water and cook on. Having these basic preparations and more is what will increase your survival odds.
