While I was walking my cattle dog Lucy around the compound, I was looking at the rabbit tracks in the snow and I noticed the top layer of snow looked like broke glass. I stopped for a second then it hit me it’s November.
In law enforcement it’s the time of increased depression and domestic arguments. It’s a shame to think of Thanksgiving that way when at a time that the Dooms Day Clock is set at two minutes before midnight with the current atmosphere we should all be grateful to still be alive.
The Dooms Day Clock was developed in 1947 by the Science and Security Board who monitors events like Politics, Energy issues, Weapons, Diplomacy, and Climate Science. Basically anything that could inflict irrevocable harm to humanity. They meet twice a year to discuss global events in a deliberative manner. During the Cuban missile conflict the event development reached a head and was over before the board ever had a chance to meet.
For most it is a time of food drives, football events, and family get togethers. The Pilgrims first Thanksgiving in 1621 was to celebrate their first harvest and said to be attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims. Like most good family events it only lasted three days. After that nerves start wearing and family starts fighting. ( That last drumstick belongs to Lucy).
The first settlers were very much like the End Preppers of today but in reverse. They had only their supplies and skill to help them survive where we have all the toys, bells and whistles which will go away if things get that bad. It is reported that only 1/2 the original 102 settlers of 1620 survived the first year.
Your family tradition may be watching football, the Macy’s Parade or Black Friday shopping. Here at MLM it will be watching DVD movies of Laurel and Hardy’s “Babes in Toy Land”(1934) (No it’s not porn), A Charlie Browns Thanksgiving (1973) and no Thanksgiving is complete without John Candy and Steve Martin in Planes Trains and Automobiles (1987). Try watching these or RED GREEN’S “Words of Wisdom” to improve you’re mood and lessen your depression.
Another way you know it’s Thanksgiving is when you go to put on that long sleeve shirt and you can’t button it all the way up especially around the midsection. Maybe you should be taking advantage of the Black Friday specials.
Some family’s will have Turkey others Ham here CH is watching for a good-sized Canadian Goose. The birds aren’t dumb, haven’t seen a one since the day before hunting season started.
In the spirit of survivalism, I support hunting as long as it is done humanely and the game is completely used. Don’t kill to just be blasting something. Every life is too important to be just wasted for the thrill.
With the holidays closing in remember everything is okay in moderation. After two days, be a good guest and be on your way with your left overs.
If your one of those people meaning ill intentions toward others “DON’T”. Mother Nature, Fate and Politicians have given us enough to worry about this year. Promote peace so we all can survive to celebrate another year. If your that depressed try watching American Experience series on PBS “The Pilgrims first winter” or get help with the crisis hotline to help you get through the holiday season’s.
As always be safe and healthy my friends.
